Multicoated or we can called anti-reflection lenses are mostly prescribe for most spectacle wearer. Why? because the anti- reflective surface makes them look better, and they produce less glare, which is particularly noticeable when driving at night or working in front of a computer monitor. The decreased glare means that wearers often find their eyes are less tired, particularly at the end of the day. Allowing more light to pass through the lens also increases contrast and therefore increases visual acuity. Many multicoated lenses include an additional coating that repels water and grease, making them easier to keep clean.

VICTREX PEEK selected for innovative eyewear hinge

Tokyo, Japan – Victrex Polymer Solutions announced that VICTREX® PEEK has been specified by Boston Club, the premier luxury eyewear manufacturer in Japan, as the material of choice for its new JAPONISM PROJECTION series of glasses. The material selection for this series required high performance strength, wear resistance and ductility due to the unique screw-less hinge design that would face the flexibility and temperature variations of daily use by discerning consumers. VICTREX® PEEK, a high performance thermoplastic often used in critical aerospace, automotive and medical device applications, was the ideal material to meet these expectations.

Boston Club’s revolutionary design is exclusive to their new JAPONISM PROJECTION series launched earlier this month in Asia. The challenge was to create a high quality product that consumers could use continuously and effortlessly without the maintenance associated with traditional hinges that use tiny screws to keep them assembled. This innovation is now the world’s first “Rudder Hinge” mechanism in eyewear; inspired by the design of aircraft rudders that operate as a seamless joint to avoid the aggravation of bent and disconnected frames.

The Rudder Hinge had to display extreme durability against wear damage. When running a continuous open and close test of the hinge, most eyeglasses on the market today exhibit signs of immediate wear damage after 1,000 to 5,000 cycles, whereas the Rudder Hinge, made with VICTREX PEEK, showed no sign of wear damage even after 20,000 cycles.

Hironobu Kasashima, chief designer of the JAPONISM PROJECTION eyeglasses stated, “The JAPONISM brand was developed to differentiate top quality eyeglasses embodying excellence using Japanese technology. Our goal was to create glasses that will be treasured by consumers because of their high durability – the very opposite of mass-produced generic eyewear that is more of a consumable item in many instances.” The Rudder Hinge of the JAPONISM PROJECTION combines the best technology and highest performing material. The brilliant mind of eyewear craftsmen plus the skills of one of Japan’s top pipe processing companies worked together in testing and ultimately selecting high performance VICTREX PEEK polymer for the hinge as this material has proven its performance in many demanding industries across the globe.
About Boston Club

The awesome ‘Officer’ frame by Superdry beat off all the competition from much bigger rivals in the eye wear market to be announced the winner in the landmark event in the optical calendar, this year marks the 15th year of celebrating excellence within the industry.

It’s an impressive achievement for the trendy Superdry brand that only entered the eye wear marketplace last year. The winning frame is one of their first models to be released, which shows that this is a brand that will no doubt go from strength to strength and is likely to be a big player in the future of the eye wear marketplace.

The New Paul Frank Spring 2013 Eyewear Collection eyewear collection includes 8 new ophthalmic frames and 10 new sun frames. The collection was debuted in Paris at the SILMO Eyewear Tradeshow in October and will be in stores in the beginning of December. The collection continues to build on its foundation of 3-layer plastics in signature Paul Frank colors with the introduction of the 2 new colorations, Midnight and Chocolate Seafoam. Midnight flaunts a deep blue front layer with a white middle and transpar ent teal inside. Chocolate Seafoam presents a chocolate brown front layer, seafoam middle layer and cream inside layer. The new collection continues with the use of matte finishes on c ore colorations and also introduced additional matte finishing choices for the Slate and Midnight colors. A key style in the collection is Summer Windows, offered as both a sunglass and ophthalmic glass, and is a mid-size classically round frame with a keyhole bridge. The midnight coloration of Summer Windows uses color to create a sleak two-tone look by cutting away the first layer of plastic to expose a layer of white below the brow line on the front of the frame. Also prominent in the collection is the addition of 3 new metal ophthalmic frames; Periodically Perfect, Arrived and Departed, and Slumbering Stars. Slumbering Stars stands out as a well-balance petite and feminine style with a slight cat-eye. The metal frames are handmade of lightweight hypo-allergenic stainless steel with adjustable acetate temple tips. The Paul Frank colors are applied multidimensionally on the metal to mimic the 3-layer acetate frames signature aesthetic but provide a thinner silhouetted look with adjustable nose pads for increased comfort. Globally positioned Paul Frank eyewear can be found in such premiere retail locations as well as Paul Frank’s own stores.
